COTTON CANDY

© Gloria Smith 2011

Pink cotton candy melts sugar sweet
Upon my tongue and I am young again
I pull off wispy powder puffs to eat
Then lick my sugar sticky fingers clean
I am a child again, a child of ten
I look up at Daddy's face
And he smiles down at me
He walks at my pace
The pace of small little legs
Grown tired from playing on slides
And swings, and playground things
He takes my moist, sticky little hand in his
He understands what love is
On a hot summer's day
While children play and squirrels scamper
Love is Daddy's great big hand
A pink cotton candy smile
A pink cotton summer dress
The park decorated with spring flowers
And hours spent playing in the sun
Water fountains and hot summer fun
With cotton candy, snow cones and Daddy
Though he's gone now I still relive those days
I think of them with joy and always will
